The
Benex
CSM48 Shaft Straightening Machine was originally developed
with the precision shaft industry in mind. The applications have
reached beyond shafts, into such areas as the screw machine and
cold forming industries, which typically have high production
volumes. The
following is a preview of some case studies we will expand on
soon.
Screw
Machine Industry
Manufacturers
of precision shafts frequently procure raw material with extra
straightness (at a premium price) for the purpose of producing
straighter parts. However, after all the handling and shipping
involved, this type of material is really no straighter than the
normal raw material. With the Benex system, these shaft manufacturers
are now able to procure less expensive, standard raw material
and still achieve straightness AFTER the parts are machined.
Coldforming/Fastener
Industry
One
coldforming manufacturer had lost a large fastener job to the
Asian market. Because of the low labor rates, the Asian suppliers
are able to hand-straighten the parts far less expensively than
U.S. suppliers ever could. This U.S. manufacturer began using
the Benex CSM48 and the same parts can now be straightened in
large volumes, at only a fraction of the cost of traditional straightening
methods. This supplier has since become more competitive with
the Asian market and has won back the same fastener work.
Agricultural/Conveyor
Industry
Manufacturers
of conveyor chains have a problem similar to that of the coldforming
industry: the material has a tendency to creep back into its raw
coil shape. One particular Benex customer was able to eliminate
11 of their manual straightening press workstations, and replace
them with only one Benex machine.
